Cleaning-fu
As you may have noticed there is a lot of junk in the wilderness — many half built structures, or even just stray random tiles. Moderators now have the ability to clean up old junk tiles in the wilderness. Note that:
- This ability does NOT work on any tiles within a city
- This ability does NOT work on any recently logged in player’s objects (anytime within the last month)
- I have requested that mods not use this on any finished structures, only on junk tiles
Hopefully this helps cut down on all the random junk. If there is old junk near your buildings and you’d like it removed, ask a mod nicely to do so 🙂
August ~ December 2012 Updates Summary
I don’t generally make external announcements (posts outside this blog/twitter/facebook) very often since I’m frequently updating the game here and there in smaller bits and pieces… but I realized it had been since August that I’d even sent out a newsletter, and people who don’t check the site often might appreciate a write-up.
So here’s a quick overview of all the major updates to 8BitMMO over the past few months.
PvP Update Explained
The Player vs Player update was released a couple days ago, and now that players have gotten a chance to explore it for themselves, I’m going to outline all the changes below:
First, you’ll notice the town of Root looks different today. I’ve added a new area for PvP Arena telepads. You can try out PvP by using one of the three arena telepads:
Fighting other players in PvP designated areas will reward you with gold! In PvP arenas or dungeons you will respawn at player designated spawn points in the current arena — no more journeying all the way back from Root each time.
Mayors – you can make your town into a PvP arena! This update allows you to specify a type of town via /townpvp <pvp type>, where pvp type is: off, on, bounty, or dungeon.
/townpvp off
This setting disables PvP combat entirely. Respawns happen at root. Intended for normal towns.
/townpvp on
This setting enables PvP. Each PvP kill in this type of area gains the victor 3 gold.
/townpvp bounty
This setting enables a special form of PvP. Each player has a ‘bounty’ shown over their head in square brackets next to their name. The more consecutive kills, the higher your bounty. Killing another player resets their bounty, increases your bounty, and gives you their bounty’s worth in gold. How high can you get your bounty?
/townpvp dungeon
This setting disables PvP, but respawns happen at player designated spawn points. Game text will refer to the town as a dungeon. Don’t forget to place some monster spawners for players to fight!
Server Migration: Finished!
In under an hour, we’re up and running on a brand new server!
The new server is faster (3.4ghz quad core instead of 2.66 ghz quad core) and features better connectivity — load times should be slightly faster, ping times slightly lower, and hopefully no more random connection outages.
