Tonight’s update adds Homestone Invites.

You can now invite another player to visit your homestone.  Just type /homeinvite <guest’s name> to invite the player to visit your homestone.  They will be notified that for the next fifteen minutes that they can do /invite <homestone owner’s name> to visit that homestone.

Two bug fixes are also included tonight:

• Using doors/signs/etc now considers z-height — no more using a balcony door and it opens up the door on the ground floor.  Thanks for the report Klemen702
• Fixed outlining grid issue which was especially noticeable on the new map.  Thanks for the report Grim

There are four new hats in the shop, with a special exclusive hat for $50+ backers of last month’s promotion.

The Gold Porkpie hat narrowly won the backer vote (3 votes for Gold Porkpie, 2 for Breaking Bit), so it is exclusive to $50+ backers.

All other hats are publicly available, so check them out in the shop!

• Local/global chatting
• Fixed bug where Pixel Pistol could be dropped anywhere in Origin
• Fixed bug where enemy text hovers in top left of screen momentarily
• Server Optimization: regions can be sent to the client faster
• Server Optimization: faster connection switching

Local/global chatting: If the server ever hits 60 concurrent players, by default chat will then only go to areas near you.  You can override that and chat with everyone with /g <text>.  Last time we hit that many players, the chat window was basically unreadable, so this is being proactive for when the Steam launch happens.

• Desktop client now remembers your username/password during resizes (not yet between launches though)
• No longer possible to pick up monsters
• Rarely in past, Town stones would sometimes miss a region or two and I’d have to manually fix that for mayors.  That should now be fixed
• Wiki is linked from in-game menu

Exciting news:  I now have an 8BitIntern joining the project who will be helping out with code tasks!  If you see kartud online, say hello!

His first task was getting pumpkins back on sale for this month.  You’ll find them in the front page of the shop.  Also, pumpkins can now only be lit by yourself.

I’m excited to announce that you can now use Bitcoin as a payment method for purchasing gold/plat packs!  This option has been added to the payment select screen for users using the 8bitmmo.net edition of the game.  Like the recently added Wallet option, the Bitcoin option also supports gifting.

Bitcoins are awesome because once you have them, they’re super easy to trade between users online.  You can manage your own electronic wallet on your desktop or phone (like Electrum) and you don’t have to worry about having a bank account or credit card.

Today I upgraded our integration of Google Checkout to Google Wallet for Digital Goods.  Checkout is being retired, and Wallet is replacing it.

The upshot of this is that you no longer have to worry about typing in /redeem whatever.  The gold/plat is now deposited directly into your game account.  If you wish to purchase gold/plat as a gift for another player, that is now also possible using this page.

We just hit 75,000 registered users!

Also, the keys & doors update is now live:  There are now three different key/door pairs, and keys generated are unique to each city.  You can give/trade players keys or have them autospawn.  Use them to give only specific people in a city access to a building, or to make dungeons more interesting!

I have added one to the first dungeon, the Law Offices of LOL & LOL.

Lots of changes in this update:

• New mob: Game Reviewer.
  He does not move quickly, but has lots of hp and is strong.  There is a good strategy for taking him down, but I’ll let you discover it!
• New mob: Dire Game Reviewer
• New weapon: Blue Sword
• New weapon: Red Sword
• Your health now increases with each level gained.
  This change is retroactive — just respawn to get your new max HP
• Monsters will no longer attack through the ceiling/floor
• Fix for lost permaitems bug

Psy has created a dungeon for the game reviewer – once its populated with some nefarious mobs, I will link it from root.  It will be targeted for players who are level 3 or later.
